Early concept studies focused on exploring circular and radial geometries, testing how the building could best respond to the surrounding pool and playground areas. This helped guide the development to a more outward-facing design.

Azalea Trails Recreation Center, located in Cypress, Texas, is a circular, pavilion-like structure designed to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor spaces. The building’s defining feature is a rhythmic pattern of wood beams that extends from the interior spaces out to the covered patios, visually and physically connecting the architecture to its natural surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling glazing wraps the primary event spaces, offering transparency and uninterrupted views of the adjacent pool and playgrounds, while solid walls are reserved for service areas and restrooms. This building design reinforces the goal to foster a strong connection between the built environment and the recreational landscape it serves.
