Beacon Point Community Center, located in Texas City, Texas just off I 45, serves as a recreation amenity for the Beacon Point at Lago Mar community. The facility includes a conditioned meeting space that can be used year-round, restrooms, and a covered pavilion that supports poolside activities and gatherings. The architectural design draws inspiration from the community’s monument sign, creating a cohesive visual identity that ties the building into the larger neighborhood aesthetic.

Sketching

Early design studies focused on developing the building’s massing and roof forms to respond to both the site and the program. Multiple roof heights and configurations were explored to emphasize key portions of the building while establishing a strong presence within the surrounding pool environment. These studies helped guide the overall proportions and architectural expression that informed the final design.

The Design

The building was intentionally designed to face inward toward the pool, creating a comfortable vantage point where families can gather and watch swim meets while remaining shaded and protected. At the same time, the architecture presents outward to the parking lot and street to avoid creating a distinct front or back to the building.

Because the primary entry occurs along the side of the structure, the design required three distinct façades that each respond to different arrival points across the site. Through careful massing, roofline articulation, and material selection, the building establishes a balanced presence from every direction.

Final material selections and architectural detailing reference the forms and palette of the neighborhood monument sign, tying the facility back to the broader identity of the community.
