The Design
The pavilion design developed quickly by building upon a previous concept that already incorporated the client’s requested program elements. With the overall layout established early, the primary refinement focused on sizing the outdoor patio to accommodate picnic tables for residents, ensuring the space could support both everyday use and small gatherings.
The structure embraces simplicity and durability. Constructed primarily of CMU block with horizontal siding that reflects the surrounding neighborhood’s architectural character, the building provides a strong, low maintenance foundation suited to the climate. A self-draining aluminum roof canopy serves as the defining feature, offering shade and weather protection while guiding circulation from the parking lot to the pool. Beneath it, shaded seating, a crushed gravel gathering area, festoon lighting, and the adjacent playground create a connected sequence of outdoor spaces designed to encourage interaction and comfort.
