Site Analysis & Challenges
One of the primary challenges during the planning process was working around existing utility easements on the site, which required specific clearance distances and limited where development could occur. To address these constraints, we explored different strategies that would preserve the easements while still maintaining connectivity between the various program elements, including incorporating a skybridge connection.
As part of a larger development, the project also required careful consideration of vehicular and pedestrian circulation that connects from the main access to the rest of the site. As a way to make the most efficient building footprint, while still ensuring we had enough space for parking, we explored different options that included angling the building in different ways to optimize the natural views of the site from the hotel and convention center.
Another component of the study involved evaluating aquatic attractions within the development. We explored several options, including a lazy river, a two-acre lagoon, and combinations of both. To ease the implementation of a new level of entertainment not common in the Bastrop area, we included an inflatable water obstacle course. This would tie into the adventure park programming within the outdoor space.
