Maplewood Secondary Entry Monument, located southwest of Houston’s downtown business district, is landmark signage for the expanding Maplewood community. The monument is intended to support wayfinding while reflecting the neighborhood’s overall character. Simpler in form, the monument prioritizes clarity and legibility while drawing on the beauty of natural materials to create a sense of identity and distinction.
The design began with the massing and form of a blade-wall, using it as a foundation to explore proportion, layout, and visibility. From there, materials were layered and refined to align with the community’s overall vision. This results in a clean, functional marker that enhances wayfinding while reinforcing Maplewood’s character.
